10 years data M...
”Nothing keeps unchanging like the change”. In the past 10 years data M has been growing to a leading software and engineering company for the sheet metal industry. Continuous development and our efforts for improvements have always been main principles to us. In order to supply our customers and interested companies with current information about data M and its products we are publishing this first issue of data M FORUM. How do you like it? We would be pleased if future issues of this newsletter will also be used to exchange infos and experiences. We are looking forward to hearing from you.

 

data M Engineering at ceramitec ī97
What the hell is data M doing at this exhibition? Havenīt they been working in rollforming and sheet metal bending business? The COPRA Roller Scanner and COPRA Lasercheck are examples for these activities. They show data M Engineerings’ competence in image processing systems. At ceramitec ī97 in Munich we are going to demonstrate how modern image processing systems can be applied to the ceramic industry. Some of the devices we are going to exhibit (e.g. decal cutting machine) will be already known by a number of customers, because they have been manufactured and distributed by OEM-customers.

Measuring bending angles:
There is also a new member in our product family: the COPRA LaserCheck system. This is a laser based measuring system for bending angles tailored to fit existing and new press brakes.

What is COPRA MetalBender ?  
COPRA MetalBender (CMB) is a software solution for the bending process. You may possibly know the software Genius-Sheet-Metal 2D or Genius-Solid-Sheet. data M - the developer and licensee of respective Genius-Sheet-Metal software - has released a new software package for the design and unfolding of sheet-metal parts: the COPRA MetalBender 2D and 3D. This matured software package with even more functions and better performance is, by the way, fully compatible to data Mīs Genius-Sheet-Metal programs.

COPRA for Rollforming and Tube&Pipe Production for Windows 95 / NT About one and a half year data Mīs engineers have been working in order to finish the new COPRA c4 version. A job, which was worth the trouble, after having got the first comments from our customers. The new COPRA rollforming software release can be operated in combination with AutoCAD Rel. 12 or 13 and runs under DOS operating system. Also a COPRA NT version for AutoCAD Rel. 14/Windows has been released now.

 

COPRA MetalBender 2D,3D and HVAC: New versions of Sheet Metal Unfolding Programs for AutoCAD and Autodesk Mechanical Desktop...

Design of solid models has been made very comfortable by COPRA MetalBender 3D and its integrated "2D to 3D" function. Contours designed in 2D will be converted into the desired solid model by COPRA MetalBender 3D.

The number of effective design- and editing features has been increased. This allows the user to develop simple as well as complex parts even faster than before. Dialogue boxes, e.g. for flange design allow the operator to choose commands and parameters from the menu at a glance. Intelligent face selection- and flip functions as well as an integrated preview (change and control flip parameters at any time) are among these new features. Also new is an automatic generating and dimensioning of views - a usually time wasting job. Lately CMB provides you also with spring-back data of every bending zone - an important infomation which is able to increase quality and efficiency of your production process. By the way: the actual material behavior in your press brake can be verified by our COPRA LaserCheck system.

The integration of interfaces for Delem, Exapt or Cybelec control units allows a direct data transfer to the manufacturing process. Totally redesigned and absolutely new is our COPRA MetalBender HVAC software (formerly Genius Sheet HVAC). CMB HVAC is a powerful unfolding program for any 3D sheet metal parts designed with Mechanical Desktop or AutoCAD having conical, cylindrical and straight areas. It is based on Autodeskīs internal ACIS-modeller and tailored to the needs for the heating, ventilation- and airconditioning industry (HVAC). Respective sheet metal part may be stored either as a solid or membrane model. Unfolding a part is upmost simple: Just pick the sheet metal parts you want to get unfolded using the mouse.

The result is the flat pattern including piercings, notches and accurate intersecting curves. Of course, all the parametric functions from the former version are still available in COPRA MetalBender HVAC.

 

 

COPRA for Rollforming - New Release c4 for and Tube&Pipe Production DOS, Windows 95 and NT

COPRA Rollforming / Tube&Pipe software has been extended by a large number of improvements and new features. There are more than 150 new functions. We are able to mention only a few of them here. A project manager has been included which allows you to switch between different projects much more easier than before. Important infos can be stored in dialogue boxes, previews will show you graphically which profile each project contains. The interaction between user and COPRA is now totally dialogue box driven. Switches for automatic zoom, a free definable layer structure or - last but not least, the possibility to customize the numbering sequence for profiles and roll passes (number one = machine entry or vice versa). New is also the possibility to ”punch” the designed profiles. The notches are taken into account during the calculation of static properties.

The software module for profile unfolding has been redesigned and has become also dialogue box driven. Reference points, driving diameter or material parameters can be modified even after having generated a flower pattern. Automatic roll design for standard profiles, a totally redesigned software for automatic dimensioning, Roller blank lists and cutting lists with interface to MS Excel are further highlights of COPRA c4 version.

New is also a COPRA software module for automatic generation of CNC codes for turning mills. The software contains a generalised post processor (easy customisation to additional turning mills) and has got an additional DXF interface. Nearly 200 companies are currently using our COPRA software for rollforming and tube&pipes, having about 400 licences in operation. We would like to thank all our customers and we are committed to continue our efforts to improve the software technology for rollforming. The COPRA LaserCheck

Especially when bending small numbers of parts the bending angle has to be corrected. Measuring the actual bending angle used to be - if possible at all - time consuming and quite inaccurate. This laser based measuring device developed by data M Engineering offers a new way for online measuring. There is no wear off, because the sensore doesn’t come into contact with the workpiece nor with the bending tool. It can be mounted even on existing press brakes. The tools neednīt to be changed.

COPRA Tube Drawing design software

Often tubes are drawn through one ore more rings up to the finished shape. Up to now it was very difficult to determine the geometry of the required drawing rings. The design as well as the production of the drawing rings was always a particular problem. A new design- and calculation function provides now a solution for an automatic design of drawing rings - also including the required CNC machining programs. This function is being offered in a version for Autodesks Mechanical Desktop design system. Alternatively the software is able to calculate forming steps for sizing- and calibration passes in tube welding lines. Thus the calibration from round tubes into special shapes can be designed computer assisted.

Some product examples from data M Engineering:Process chain for design, cutting and aligning of ceramic decals


Based on its experience in mechanical engineering and image processing software technology, data M Engineering is offering a process chain for the design, layout, cutting and alignment of decals for the porcelaine and ceramic industry. The process chain starts with ”Platescribe” and ”Visualiser” software - both are products from UK-based company TypeMaker (data M is their exclusive representative in Germany).

Decal cutting machine

The next step in the process chain is a camera-driven automatic cutting machine for porcelaine decals. This device detects the contour of the printed transfers and perforates it automatically. The machine cuts up to 50 sheets simultanously. Due to the high productivity the machine ”pays back” very quickly.

data Mīs decal aligner fascinates by its light weight and high performance. It compensates geometric deviations of decals accurately. This device is also camera-driven and computer-controlled (Windows operating system). It works automatically and is essential for a successful operation of transfer application machines.

Quality can be verified! In order to have a possibility to scan rollforming rolls data M has developed a roll inspection machine - COPRA Roller Scanner - which is inspecting even used rolls within shortest time. It can be linked to COPRA Rollform design software (data base management system for rolls) or other CAD systems (DXF interface available). It has been installed at several large rollforming companies already and shown its quick redemption. It can be used for reworking purposes as well as for archiving large number of stock rolls in order to reuse them at a later stage. Effective retrieval algorithms are also offered.

Genius Sheet becomes COPRA MetalBender !
data M Software GmbH has increased its succesful sheet metal design- and unfolding software Genius-Sheet-Metal by addtional functions as well as services provided by our sister company - data M Engineering GmbH. An example is our COPRA LaserCheck system, described in this issue of data M-FORUM. Another example is an image processing system for automatic alignment of sheet-metal parts in cutting devices and bending machines. In order to take into consideration this increased product portfolio the COPRA MetalBender was launched. At the same time we have started to supply and support our customers / distributers directly in order to provide you with the best backup service possible.
VOEST ALPINE KREMS decides on COPRA software.
VOEST ALPINE KREMS GmbH, has installed 9 COPRA systems at their design office in Krems, Austria.
9 HP workstations with ME10 are linked to a data base server. A COPRA Roller Scanner, which is already ordered, will complete the whole installation shortly.
